DIY LIP BALM RECIPE
After an Indian summer, it feels the weather is really beginning to turn now.. And with that come all sorts of ailments😒 For me, a big issue when it starts to get colder is dry, flaky lips.. Which I then inevitably pick at, and then receive a lovely big coldsore for my efforts 🙈
So this year I’m pre-empting the unkissable lips and have made my own, totally natural, lip balm. Bonus points for it being a cosmetic that’s cruelty free and in a reusable container ❤️❤️
You can add whichever (high quality) essential oils you like to your balm, but I chose peppermint as there is some research out there which demonstrated peppermint oil could calm the symptoms of HSV (the coldsore virus to you and me). I also really like the minty tingle! 😉 I then added lavender for its soothing qualities.
Remember kids.. This stuff could inadvertently end up in your mouth or mucous membranes, so only use extremely high quality oils such as doTERRA to make sure its safe. 👌
This recipe makes 75g, so feel free to half it, or with Christmas approaching, why not make some lip balms up as presents.🤶 Is there anything nicer than handmade gifts? 🌲🌲
25g COCONUT OIL
12.5g SHEA BUTTER
12.5g COCAO BUTTER
20 drops peppermint oil
10 drops lavender oil
Melt all the oils/butters/wax in a bain marie, then once melted take off the heat and let cool down for a couple of minutes (make sure it doesn’t set though) and add your essential oils. Give it a good stir then pour into your chosen containers. 👍
You can find lots of places online (Amazon is always my first port of call) to buy the empty lip balm tubes if you want to be really fancy pants 👖
But I chose a lovely little pot given to me with a homemade herb mix and I’ve been waiting for a reason to reuse it!
I hope you enjoy trying this and experimenting with oil combinations.. You can even add coloured mineral makeup if you fancy a tinted version? 🤔
